How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“All expectations were far exceeded for our wedding day at Deity! We wanted a chic New York aesthetic and the venue delivered on every level, literally. Each floor is unique, functional, in good condition, and has so much to offer for pictures. Deity includes almost everything you need for the entire experience and great 3rd party vendor connections for what remains. We did not need a wedding planner. Caio, Anastasia (our day of coordinator), and the rest of the amazing staff took the best care of us leading up to and on the day of the wedding. We were treated like royalty and really felt special. DJ and music kept the dance floor active the entire night. Finally, we had HIGH expectations for the food and cocktails after our tasting. And even these were exceeded. Everything was delicious and you can trust quality for each of your guests will be as good as your initial tasting experience. Chef James is one of a kind. We can’t rave about Deity enough.”

“100% would recommend Walden for a stress-free wedding experience!!! We knew Walden was our venue when we read about their full-service wedding packages including planners, kitchen/bar all under one roof. After we toured the venue, we could not wait to have our wedding here. Our main planners were Hannah and Briscel, and we had the pleasure of a 3rd planner, Ally with a last-minute day-of staffing change. Hannah and Briscel took the stress out of wedding planning, keeping us on track with every detail and vendor. Ally made sure the wedding day ran seamlessly. One of the best things we loved about working with the planners was their recommendations for local vendors (floral, DJ, photography etc.). Their assistance contacting and coordinating calls/quotes from vendors was also a huge help. Every possible detail regarding the wedding was accounted for, so we were certain nothing would be missed along the way. Now for the fun part, our wedding day was absolutely perfect and better than we ever dreamt. The coordinators kept us on schedule and sent an itinerary in advance, so everyone knew where to be and what was coming up next. They handled all of the communication with vendors and all the little details, so we could fully be present on our wedding day. We did not have any moments of stress, or panic, and was rarely asked any questions or to do any tasks. The Walden team set everything up for us from the welcome sign to the memorial table and of course the gorgeous reception room. It’s like suddenly we got teleported into our Pinterest vision board! A big shout out to Nick and Matt, the kitchen and bar staff. They were absolutely amazing! The drinks were awesome, the bartenders could make any drink guests wanted including mocktails. The food was incredible, so many guests complimented on how delicious their meals were. We also really appreciated their accommodations for various food restrictions and preferences. Overall, the Walden staff has truly thought of everything. They made the very daunting task of planning a wedding much more manageable, and made the whole day that much more special. Since it is situated in Roosevelt Island, it was the perfect venue to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the city and yet still get a beautiful view of the Manhattan Skyline. The team was also very friendly and supportive to all of our requests and questions. They made sure that our event will go accordingly to what we have envisioned. To top it all off, the food was amazing!!! It is so rare for the celebrants to eat during the event itself but I personally couldn't contain myself. Every dish that was offered during our event was impeccable and there wasn't any miss. There is not one bad thing that I could honestly say about this venue and the team behind. I highly recommend this to everyone!”

Bonus point for being super affordable. The Oviatt team made it really straightforward and easy for us from the jump. From the moment we inquired, Gabe got back to us really fast. He informed us immediately when another couple was interested on the date we were looking at and gave us ample time to lock it in. Lindsey and Cami were our main point of contact after signing the contract, they provide you a welcome kit with all the info you'll need (such as vendor insurance and how to acquire it, parking, rental they can provide, layout guidelines etc.) and a checklist along with their due dates for everything they'll need from you. They even have a preferred vendor list in the welcome kit which is going to help you LOADS in wedding planning. Going with one of their preferred caterers is highly recommended. Oh and their bar? 1000/10 delicious drinks. We still think about the espresso martini. seriously. The value for money is incredible considering everything you'll get and zero hidden fees! We're absolutely in love with this venue. It made our special day even more magical because of its natural charm and the Oviatt team was so lovely to work with. Not only did we fall in love with this place more, our guests did as well 3 We miss everything about this art deco hottie of a place.”

“Donauschwaben's German-American Cultural Center was the perfect venue for our daughter & son-in-law’s wedding. The location to the airport, highway and hotel were ideal. Their property provided plenty of parking. The wedding was outside on a 92 day and was flawless. It was hot, but the trees were in the perfect position to shade the entire patio. The entire staff was amazing. The reception space was transformed into a beautiful space for our special celebration. Our family and friends shared with us how delicious the appetizers, meal and “aftertizers” of the homemade pretzels. Christine the Event Manager went above and beyond and made sure the day was special for everyone. She answered all of my questions, even up to the last minute. We were so impressed with how many times Christine checked in with us to make sure we were happy. We highly recommend Donauschwaben’s German-American Cultural Center.”

“I can’t say enough wonderful things about our experience at Flagstaff House for our wedding! I was so happy to be blessed with perfect weather as well as wild turkeys and hawks around the venue. Every detail was thoughtfully arranged, and the staff’s professionalism and genuine care truly made our day unforgettable. Our guests couldn’t stop raving about the stunning views and exquisite service. The food was impressive, and the cake was delicious (I hear - I didn't get a piece! Busy bride!) “Overall, we would absolutely choose Ashton Gardens Corinth again. We had a wonderful experience with the venue and Walter’s Wedding Estates overall, and I’m sharing this review in hopes it helps future couples researching venues. First, our wedding planner and coordinator, Becca, was incredible. She is extremely organized, a great communicator, and such a kind person. Our day would not have been the same without her. She kept everything running smoothly behind the scenes, checked in on us throughout the day, and truly made us feel supported and cared for. Venue: The beauty of Ashton Gardens is truly unmatched. The chapel is breathtaking, and I will never forget the moment the doors opened for me to walk down the aisle. The bridal suite was exactly what I hoped for and comfortably fit me, my seven bridesmaids, both moms, and our hair and makeup artists without feeling crowded. The groom’s suite is smaller, so the groom and his groomsmen chose to get ready off-site, which worked fine for them. One thing we loved is that the reception space is just a short walk from the chapel, making the transition to cocktail hour and the reception very easy for guests. The reception hall is spacious and offers a lot of flexibility for floor plans. We had 142 guests, plus a rented dance floor and dueling piano players, and the space felt perfect. One thing we wish we had known before booking is that the “included” rehearsal hour is only offered Monday–Thursday. Rehearsals outside those days require an additional fee. Food & Drinks: We chose the exceptional catering and bar package through Walter’s. Unfortunately, the food ended up being our least favorite part of the wedding, which is the only reason we are giving a four-star review instead of five. Several guests mentioned their meals were cold or dry, and we later learned the last table served received noticeably smaller portions, which was disappointing given that our final guest count was submitted well in advance. However, the team did a great job accommodating guests with dietary restrictions. Along these lines, we were disappointed that there was no opportunity to have an actual tasting to choose our menu, so we chose a chicken and steak duet as a safe choice. We did attend a Walter’s showcase, but they only had pork, fish, or chicken to try that night. Since we had fewer than 150 guests, we paid to have both bars open, which we highly recommend to avoid long lines. Guests had great things to say about the bartending services, and the signature drinks were fantastic. Vendor Package: The vendor package was a huge benefit. Not having to worry about rentals like linens, plates, glassware, and tables saved us a lot of time and stress. The vendors we worked with through the package were professional, communicative, and wonderful to work with.”

“We couldn't be more pleased with our wedding at the Pavilion on Crystal Lake! This venue is part of the CT Wedding Group and they are truly experts at what they do! Aesthetically, the venue is GORGEOUS. We loved the fact that we could have the best of both worlds--both inside and outside--for our wedding day. It was perfect! The outdoor ceremony space is intimate and romantic with a canopy of trees, garden lights, and a gazebo. The indoor reception area is just as intimate and has beautiful windows overlooking the lake. There are many different ways you can add on decor to make the inside as "dolled up" as you want. We also got ready for the day on the property at the Lake Cottage. Having been to multiple weddings where the wedding party had to get shuffled from one place to the next, we knew how much simpler and less stressful things would be if we could eliminate all of that. The Cottage is super cute and had everything we needed! Choosing a wedding venue was challenging, but there were a few things that set The Pavilion apart from the others. First, the food. From the beginning, we came to understand that the CT Wedding Group is very "food forward." They pride themselves on their high-quality food, presentation, and the fact that couples don't have to pick and choose options to save money--so much is just included. And simply put: the food was INCREDIBLE. The 10 passed hors d'oeuvres were delicious. We added on "The Farm Stand" which was the most elaborate charcuterie board anyone has ever seen. The dinner entrees were out of this world and dessert was divine. Every guest continues to rave to us about the food! It did not disappoint! Another thing that set apart this venue was the team of people. Once we signed the contract, we were on board with the CT Wedding Group and part of their little family. This group of people took such good care of us throughout the whole planning process! People ask if we hired a coordinator, and it was hard to answer because we had a whole TEAM of coordinators. They kept us on a schedule, made sure we were checking off things on our to-do list, hosting Zoom meetings, and were available to talk whenever we needed. Since our emails/texts went to an entire group of people, it meant we had rapid responses. Also, we never felt like any question was too small, nor any request too big. They were so kind to us and we felt extremely well cared for. Last but not least, the CT Wedding Group provides a day-of coordinator, which was amazing. By the time the day of your wedding rolls around, you will be done with decision making. All you want is to show up and have everyone tell you what to do! Our coordinator, Dimitri, was great. We knew we were in good hands and he made sure the day ran so smoothly. He also made sure we had exactly what we needed at every point in the day/night. We had no stress on our wedding day because of this! All in all, we HIGHLY recommend this venue. If not this venue, then any of the other CT Wedding Group properties. Nazareth Hall is known throughout the region as a banquet and wedding facility, but it’s the rich history and lush setting that draws people here. Built in 1927 as an all-boy Catholic boarding school. It eventually evolved into a renowned military school for boys. Throughout its history the school stayed true to its Catholic roots and the nuns who served and taught here. Operating until 1982 the stories written within its walls are still told today. Re-emerging with a new mission and purpose in April of 1991, Nazareth Hall was reborn. It is in this picturesque place, reminiscent of castles of old, that brides come to be married and celebrate with family and friends in grand ballrooms. The classrooms and meeting spaces offer the perfect vintage background for business training sessions, and the manicured lawns have been host to numerous parties and festivities.

“HAVE YOUR WEDDING HERE! Everything is in house- catering, bar, table set up, etc. and it is so helpful to not have to worry about those things. They also let you bring in your own decorations or use the ones they have available. The staff is so amazing! Maddison was my venue coordinator who answered all of my questions and was excellent with assisting with the planning and making sure everything was set for our wedding day! I also had an event coordinator who spent the day with us to make sure everything was running smoothly. They did have two weddings that day so having an event coordinator who could speak with the other coordinator was a huge bonus. Also the food- to die for! It was soooo good and was definitely a favorite for my guests. Not to mention the views! Nazareth has so many spots inside and outside that make the most beautiful wedding photos! Overall, my wedding went off without a hitch and I am so glad that I had my wedding at Nazareth Hall!”

FruitCraft Event Venue was designed to appeal to the modern couple as well as their friends and family who will love our gorgeous space and the elevated decor. We created a light and airy atmosphere as an extension of the outside with instagrammable walls and lush greenery to seal the deal. FruitCraft’s design elements honors all things living and is showcased in our living plants that adorn the space, custom made live edge tables and up-cycled lighting. The space has 14ft high ceilings, exposed beams with a northern orientation that lets natural light in perfectly positioned for the floor to ceiling plants.
