“We absolutely loved working with The Hook Club. Our amazing planner, Greenhouse Events, recommended THC, and we were sold immediately after meeting with Dan. He is super relaxed, nice, and so knowledgable. Dan and THC team made planning super easy for us. They took time to hear about our hopes and helped recommend different band sizes for us. We hadn’t heard of a DJ band before, but loved the idea of some live music with the versatility to play all sorts of music, but our venue wasn’t very big and we also didn’t want to break the bank and hire a huge band. We chose the 4 piece DJ band with singer, sax, drums, and DJ. We knew we LOVED the sax, so we also had the sax play for cocktail hour (shout out to Elijah, who was amazing), and it was one of the best parts of the night. For planning music, they sent out a very detailed and thorough spreadsheet with more songs than one could imagine, and we could rate ones we liked the most, choose ones we definitely wanted or didn't, and choose specific songs for important moments. We met a couple times to review music choices as well. One of our biggest fears with a DJ was that they'd talk too much and be a little annoying, but Dan did a great job as MC, and was very low-key like we asked but announced important moments clearly. Dan and all the musicians had such great energy and got everyone on the dance floor. Our vocalist, Christen, was also amazing — her voice was spectacular, and she was such an amazing performer and got everyone involved in the music and dancing. So many people told us how much they loved the music and the energy, and had never heard of a DJ band but thought it was an amazing concept and the addition of live music over tracks added extra excitement and fun. THC also helped out with lighting (uplights and dance lights), and worked with our fantastic planner and the venue to help us decide the best setup. Ultimately, we loved working with THC. Their DJ-band setup is unique and adds so much variety to your music while allowing for some of the energy that comes from live performers. We danced the night away and had an absolute blast. 100% would recommend THC to anyone!”

“The short version of this review: if you want the music at your wedding to be awesome and exactly what YOU love to hear, and without cheesey emcee vibes, hire Marcus! Marcus did such an amazing job DJing our wedding, we couldn’t be more thrilled. He is extremely thoughtful with his work. He took careful note of my husband and my musical tastes and preferences, as well as the vibe of our wedding, instead of playing a standard tired playlist. Per our request, he blended in some Latin music seamlessly. The dance floor was full and lively all night long, exactly as we had hoped for! He played songs we hadn’t requested but that we love, leaving me wondering how he could have known so well what to play. He also respected our “do not play” list, as I found out multiple guests requested songs on it and he politely declined. Marcus is very thorough and organized which made working with him so easy- he was on top of all the details, order of events/cues, even reviewed proper name pronunciation with us in advance. He listened to our requests and added his own magic which I knew he would do. The dance floor was packed!! Matty was perfect in his execution- never stealing the spotlight from the bride and groom and he didn’t sing and shout over the music which we appreciated! (That has a time and place but not for this wedding). “My husband and I are both musicians, as were many of our wedding guests, so when we were looking for a band to play at our October 2023 wedding in shoreline CT we knew we wanted an established band of kick-butt musicians. We had an initial phone call with Adam and immediately hit it off as fellow musicians! We knew we didn't want line dances or cliche wedding reception songs, and Adam was fully on board. He also mentioned how Around Town is different from other wedding bands - they have played together for years, where other companies just throw together contracted musicians for specific events who might not have ever played together before the day of your event. We loved the transparency about this, and immediately decided to book the Around Town Band, Adam's personal band. They played all through cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing. Our guests were already SO impressed by the time we got to dancing, but then we (the band, my husband, and I) surprised them by performing all together! I know it took extra work for the band to learn our requested song in order to surprise our guests, but I had no idea they had also coordinated with my brother (also a musician) to surprise ME with a song! Around Town really went above and beyond to make our wedding reception something out of our dreams. They are true musicians who completely set the tone for our guests - we are still getting compliments a year later, saying that Around Town made the night and is the best wedding band our guests have heard. If you want a band who will knock your guests' socks off, keep everyone dancing literally all night, and impress the musicians in your life, this is the band for you! Some tiny things I would say as a critique/heads up to other couples - we did not receive a set list in advance and communication was a little spotty. One of my main concerns for my wedding was that there would be songs played that I didn't know, so a set list a month or so before the event would have definitely eased those nerves, however one was never promised to us. That being said, we did extensively highlight the song list the band sent us early on to determine what songs they already knew that would fit our vision, so I think the vibe of what we were looking for was pretty clear, and in the end not a single song I didn't know was played! Communication was also a little tricky - we totally understand that the band would be very busy with events on top of keeping up with email communications, but we were sent a link to pay the remainder of our balance before some previous emails with questions were answered - it felt a little backwards and at the time really stressed me out, but it was more than made up for by the wedding day experience itself. Thank you, Adam and team, for being the BEST wedding band we could possibly dream of!”

It is not an exaggeration to say that every person at my wedding came up to my parents, my husband or I to say this was the best wedding band they'd ever seen. I'm in the Broadway community, and my husband's father is a professional musician, so that's high praise coming from people who know music! From start to finish, they were great about communication and getting to know our tastes. At the wedding, every song was a hit and the dance floor was packed. They were great about reading the room and handling all our formalities, including ceremony music and cocktail hour. Additionally, they had no problem learning songs that we wanted that weren't on their Song List. My husband's father is in a well-known rock band and 45 Riots learned a 7-minute long hit song of theirs to play with my father-in-law & brother-in-law. To say that performance was epic is an understatement. They completely rose to the occasion and our guests were floored. I can't recommend 45 Riots enough! Thanks for everything, guys!”

The Brooklyn Beats is the inaugural event/wedding band founded by music industry veteran, Jon Shiffman. Jon is best known for his live work as a drummer for Grammy winner Jack Antonoff in the bands Steel Train and Bleachers. He has toured all over the world and his drumming can be heard on various National TV Commercials, and is featured in the 2024 release of Paramount Pictures’ Mean Girls movie. Since even before leaving the touring life in 2015, Jon has been a fixture in the New York private event/wedding band scene and has been a drummer, band leader, talent booker and event producer for the biggest agencies and bands in the area.
