The Murray’s Mill Historic District, in the rolling countryside of eastern Catawba County, nestles just as it was a century ago along the banks of Balls Creek. Preserved intact are the 1913 mill itself, the 1890s Murray & Minges General Store, the 1880s Wheathouse, used as an exhibit gallery, the 1913 John Murray House, furnished to the period, and numerous outbuildings. Run by three generations of the Murray Family who closed operations in 1967, the picturesque structures and surrounding land form the last milling complex in the county, meticulously preserved and interpreted by the Catawba County Historical Association since 1980.

Homesteads Events is a division of Homesteads Management, one of the Piedmont and Western North Carolina fastest-growing and well-respected event & hospitality companies. A small non-descript utility building on the premises, while listed as a “noncontributing” structure, is believed to have been a carriage house for the David Ramsour House (ca. 1820) which occupied the property years ago.

Hunter House & Gardens is a beautifully restored Colonial Revival farmhouse. Built in 1913, the home is listed on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Register of Historic Places. The farmhouse estate sits on over 2+ acres of land, with one acre dedicated for parking, offering gracious settings for all types of events from large to small weddings, corporate gatherings, and bridal showers. With plantings of more than 200 trees since purchasing the property in 2017, the owners are committed to preserving the last remaining 2+ acres of what was once a vast 3,200-acre homesite/farmland. The gardens paint a magical setting located in and around the farmhouse estate. The garden offers the perfect place to hold a wedding or gathering in our 3,200 sq foot tent with a seating capacity of 300; tent sides and dance floor are also available.
