Nina Berry Square Dance Calling

5.0

Pescadero, CA
  • Band or Ensemble
  • Starts at $1,600

Nina Berry calls square dances throughout the Bay Area and Northern California in the traditional style— no experience necessary, always with a live band. These dances put the focus on the fun and party first, followed by learning something new in the rich tradition of square dancing. Nina calls every month at the Third Saturday Barn Dance at Pie Ranch, as well as private parties and events.

Awarded Best of Zola
We didn't have to worry about a thing with Nina and her band from start to finish - they were professional, so very fun the day of, and communication was great. Wedding vendors can be such a crapshoot but this was so very easy and SO FUN. People are still talking about the square dancing as a highlight of our wedding. Nina went above and beyond to help us come up with a family dance in lieu of more traditional dances and it was really so special and one of our favorite moments. Would definitely recommend!

Venue considerations

  • No free parking
  • Does not provide event staff
  • Dance floor not included
Everything about our experience with Venture was genuinely terrific from start to finish. A team of hard-working people who are willing to help with anything that they are able to. Communication was top-notch throughout the entire process, and the kindness exemplified by everyone who works there could not be overstated. The location is not only beautiful, but the positive energy one feels when walking around and staying on site is so powerful! I knew it was where I wanted to get married the moment I got out of the car on my first visit. Prior to visiting venture, we had looked at several other locations and had done a ton of online research. Many other venues were outrageously priced, even at a base cost, with basic amenities being additional costs. On top of being more expensive from the jump, the environments offered were not nearly as beautiful and fully realized as Venture. The newly built kitchen is stunning and so functional! All of the bathrooms with flushable toilets, electricity, and outlets made my less nature oriented guests feel very comfortable. Overall, everybody had a fantastic time, and every need my husband I had throughout this process was more than met. You will not regret spending time here at Venture Retreat Center, whether that’s for your wedding or just to book a stay for an escape from stressful life. Book with Venture, your heart will be happy! 3

I’ve always been inspired by the strong, ambitious women in my life who built successful small businesses in the hospitality industry — from restaurant owners and bakers to caterers and florists. Growing up surrounded by their entrepreneurial spirit, I was motivated to follow my own path and create something meaningful in the world of events. After spending two years working as a Wedding Coordinator at the Westin, the pandemic hit and forced a pause on hotel weddings. That unexpected turn of events only fueled my determination to turn my passion into a full-time business. And so, Kaci Danae Events was born.

Working with Kaci was a great experience. She’s organized, responsive, easy to communicate with, and had a well-structured timeline that made the entire day run seamlessly. As a DJ/MC, having a planner like Kaci makes our job so much easier. She kept everyone aligned and created a smooth, stress-free experience for both vendors and the couple. Highly recommend her.

The team at The Mountain Terrace was a dream to work with from start to finish. Their communication was always quick, accurate, and efficient, and they were incredibly helpful and supportive throughout the entire wedding planning process. The venue itself is stunning - it was recently renovated and the new touches are simply beautiful. The location was already gorgeous, but the updates have made it even more breathtaking. The Mountain Terrace team went above and beyond both during the planning stages and on the day of our wedding. We had a phenomenal time and I was completely stress-free thanks to their efforts. We loved our time and the warm, down-to-earth people that worked with us at Mountain Terrace. I cannot recommend them highly enough, especially since the wedding process can sometimes feel a bit cold - this team is truly wonderful.

We found TPE through Yelp and are so glad we chose Leah. She was an absolute pleasure to work with, matching our energy and preferences perfectly to bring our vision of a cozy, laid-back celebration to life. Her planning templates made the process effortless, and her guidance was invaluable every step of the way. On the wedding day, Leah and Leo went above and beyond - even replacing centerpieces I had misplaced. They kept the timeline on track and handled every detail, from securing gifts to ensuring everything ran smoothly. This allowed us to fully enjoy our celebration without a single worry. Leah helped us design a day that truly represented us - nerdy, cozy, and unique. From a special ceremony in the Cal Academy Planetarium to a cocktail hour in the aquarium and dinner in the atrium, it was seamless. All of the vendors she recommended were professional, approachable, and a delight to work with. We and our guests had an amazing time, and we are so grateful to Leah for making our day truly special!

Saratoga springs is a breathtaking venue. I absolutely loved my space. The staff are caring, communicative, detailed and super easy to work with. We used the Redwood Grove space. It is secluded and intimate. Beautifully covered in trees. The space is amazing and green and so earthy. The staff sets up your space and pulls down your space (if hired). They pay amazing attention to detail and were eager to ensure that my space was everything I wanted. The only issue I have is the short amount of time you are allotted to be on site. You cannot get ready there and you only have one hour to explore the venue and take all the pictures on site that you want. Which on a wedding day is chaotic. It would be nice to have more time to explore the space especially for the cost of renting a space. Other than the time constraints everything is organized, and amazing. The food is amazing and we for so many compliments on our food! The space overall is beautiful and is a place I would recommend to anyone with how attentive the staff are.

Honestly. Patricia was fabulous. As the Mother of the Bride, I watched her handle vendors, last minute surprises, and all of our guests with Grace and Professionalism. I never experienced any anxiety and knew that she had absolutely everything under control. My husband and I arrived before anyone else and watched as she seamlessly made sure that everything was done as planned. Her presence was barely noticeable except when needed and then she would almost magically appear anticipating the need. I am so impressed with her skills and I would wholeheartedly recommend her to my closest friends and family.

The Museum features a changing exhibits gallery as well as the permanent exhibit, “Crown of the Peninsula,” that describes the rich history of Los Altos and the surrounding area.

Why you'll love this venue

  • Dressing room available
  • Space for a large guest list

Venue considerations

  • Venue feels large for events with small guest lists

Bride’s Perspective Our wedding was a candlelit pizza party in the garden—casual, approachable, and elegant all at once. About 80 guests came. The ceremony was under the tree near the entrance. During cocktail hour, some guests (especially families with kids) enjoyed docent-led tours of the house. For dinner, we seated everyone at two long banquet tables on the bricks. While a lot of us were dancing inside, guests also gathered outside around the heaters under blankets we provided. The venue’s gardens and old trees meant we needed very little décor — we went with some DIY Trader Joe’s flowers & lots of candles. When the sun set, the glow from the candles and string lights provided by LAHM was magical. One highlight was cutting the cake at the end of the tables, looking out at our laughing, candlelit guests. We expected warm October weather, but the forecast dipped into the low 60s. Propane heaters worked perfectly, and combined with candles, lights, and blankets, the night felt intimate and warm. We live close to the venue and got ready at home, which turned out to be ideal—relaxed, convenient, and comfortable. Before planning, I imagined a rustic barn wedding, while my husband wanted something elegant. The museum was the perfect balance — and better than either of us pictured. Working with Lisa was wonderful. She was professional, responsive, and calm from the first walkthrough through the end of the night. I enjoyed checking in with her throughout the event, and everything ran smoothly. We trusted her recommendations and appreciated how she coordinated with all our vendors. We joke that if we ever got married again, we’d do it all the same — same space, same people, same Lisa! Groom’s Perspective We knew our venue search was over when we found the Los Altos History Museum. Lisa, the venue coordinator, not only manages a beautiful space but also brings clarity with straightforward policies and transparent pricing, which gave us freedom to design the day exactly how we wanted. The event moved naturally through the property: ceremony under the trees, cocktails near the house, dinner on the bricks, and dancing inside. It felt private but accessible, and the gardens were perfect for photos. My favorite moment was watching the sun set over dinner as candles and string lights took over. Lisa was fantastic — responsive, flexible, and organized. She met with our vendors in advance and made space to store supplies several days ahead of the wedding. She was the first to arrive and last to leave. She even helped pack our car at the end of the night. A few notes for future couples: there’s limited getting-ready space (we used our home, which worked great), tenting for rain can be tricky and expensive, and there’s no commercial kitchen. None were issues for us, and Lisa explained these points to us early so there were no surprises. Vendor List: Coordinator: Taylor Rae Weddings Catering [Appetizers, Dinner]: Gigi mobile wood-fired kitchen Catering [Service, Setup, Breakdown, Bar]: Heirloom Catering Co. We couldn’t imagine working with anyone else. You and your team made the process stress-free and so seamless.

Jon was so communicative with us the entire time and was very patient with our indecision on songs and timing of different parts of our evening. His equipment functioned flawlessly at both the ceremony and the reception. He was able to provide support and equipment to our friend who played piano for us during the ceremony. Everyone loved our reception dance songs and had a great time!

I cannot recommend Emily enough! We found her a few months out from the wedding and did a call to talk about our budget and our vision for our wedding. Emily was so accommodating, shaping a photography and videography package that fit us perfectly! On our wedding day she was incredibly hard working and well prepared. She makes everyone she meets feel comfortable, confident and beautiful in their pictures! On top of honoring our "shot list" and getting all of my top priorities taken care of, Emily scoped out the venue and came up with fun locations and ideas that we hadn't considered! She also played with traditional photography, shooting on film, and polaroids all of which gave us unique looks that we love! If you're looking for a skilled, artistic, and friendly photographer, you've found her!

Originally, we did not think we could afford a videographer, but when we met with Tim and he was so accommodating, creative, and flexible and willing to work within our budget, we could not say no! His first priority really was making sure our vision came to life. Tim went above and beyond on our wedding day to capture everything he knew we wanted and more - he shot over an hour of open dance because the dance floor was on fire! Our video is now such a cherished memory that we can relive over and over. Thank you Tim! You wont regret booking with him.

TL;DR: Kim Baker Beauty is fantastic and you should absolutely book them! When looking for a hair & makeup artist, as a queer couple, we were a little apprehensive about finding an artist who would be well-versed in hair & makeup for couples and weddings outside of heteronormative traditions. My partner was a little worried about finding someone who would "get it" in terms of their style--more minimal and masculine--and who wouldn't try to push them into doing a more feminine style. Kim and Audra both totally got it! Kim was super communicative throughout the whole process and was so great to work with. Due to unforeseen circumstances the week of our wedding, Kim couldn't make it--but she immediately organized one of her other artists, Audra, who did a truly superb job. My partner and I both got hair and makeup services. I had a more classic bridal look and my partner had more minimal makeup and their short hair styled. We both absolutely loved the way we looked and felt amazing on our wedding day! We wanted a calm, chill morning while getting ready for our wedding and Audra was lovely, so kind and easy to talk to, and had a very calm energy. Our hair and makeup lasted extremely well throughout the evening, even through hours of dancing! Kim and Audra are total pros and made us feel stunning on our wedding day. I can't recommend them highly enough!
